Lighter Faster Hire is a rental service for ultralight hiking and camping (backpacking) gear in Melbourne, Australia. I stock high performance, ultra lightweight backpacks and shelters from the world’s best cottage outdoor brands. The rental equipment is perfect for overnight hiking on long distance walking trails like the Three Capes Track, Australian Alps Walking Track (AAWT), Grampians Peaks Trail, Overland Track, Great Ocean Walk or the Great South West Walk.
Ultralight outdoor gear is not just for the ultralight hiker or 'thru hiker' though. The gear is ideal for any human powered adventuring in the backcountry such as bikepacking, packrafting or ski touring.
I can help you with an ultralight backpack, camping tarp, tarptent, ultralight tent, bivy bag or camping hammock. All made from high performance materials like Dyneema Composite Fabric (DCF), formerly known as Cuben Fiber. Silnylon, silpoly, Gridstop, Robic nylon and carbon fibre are also very common: whatever is needed to get the best performance at the lightest possible weight.
Anyone that travels in wilderness areas can benefit from light weight hiking and camping gear. Reducing your baseweight to 4kg or less can drastically increase the amount of fun you have on the trail or river! You can stand taller, be more agile and reduce the aches and pains that go with carrying 'traditional' (heavy) gear. Going ultralight can also make it possible to take on more challenging trips because you can travel further each day or take on steeper terrain without suffering the same fatigue. All while staying comfortable and safe.
Rent camping gear because you’ll get to use the very best equipment at a much lower cost than buying it, and at the end of your trip you'll just hand it back. Even if you’re considering buying ultralight backpacking equipment of your own, it can be a risky process and renting is a great way to try before you buy.
